about me

After growing up queer and loud in rural Iowa, I left home on a mission: to be the grown-up I needed when I was younger.

Years (and years) later, it’s still a purpose that steers my career in journalism and marketing. When I’m working as an arts reporter, I seek out stories that speak truth to queer creativity. On this path, I’ve interviewed everyone from John Waters to John Cameron Mitchell. I’ve found myself writing backstage at drag shows more than a few times.

As a visual art and theatre critic, I’m interested in work that explores comics, disability, religion, and sexuality. I love a major fair, but I’d rather see performance art in some random basement. Invite me to your shows!

My roles in marketing and content strategy parallel this path. I’ve worked specifically with arts nonprofits and feminist organizations, using my powers for good. I know from experience that online media and advertising are sometimes the only ways we see ourselves represented in culture — It’s critical to approach these with sensitivity and care.

Also in my toolbox: project management, social media strategy, event planning, podcasting, print design, press relations, and A/V production. As of January 2022, I’m earning my Google UX Certification through the Mom Project’s RISE Scholarship program!

When I’m not typing, I’m teaching my kiddo the Iowa fight song or making vegan sticky rolls.
